Safe Walk

I think Dani Basden's new group Safe Walk, which walks women to their cars when it's dark, is a great idea. My documentary project for my coms 126 class is the safety right outside campus, because I've been around campus by myself and I know it's not safe in the early morning and night. I've personally had to deal with aggressive panhandlers, men clearly mentally unstable, guys driving up and offering "homemade" cologne and trying to sell me 'their' playstations, and when I say playstations I mean one guy trying to sell me multiple playstations that he claimed were his.

I have walked girls to their cars more times than I can count so I think this is a great program that couls be spread through Facebook and Twitter. I'm pretty busy myself and not the biggest guy in the world physically, but I would be more than happy to volunteer on certain days in the future.

  1. I thought it was a really good idea as well, especially considering the multiple attacks that have happened on campus. Hopefully it will catch on and be something like Safe Rides has become.

  2. Hey Mitchell,
I agree as well that this is an awesome idea and needs to be implemented every semester. It is sad that there are so many bad people out there that we need a group like this. I know I think of my girlfriend's saftey everytime she has a night class at Sac State. I think that this is a great idea and more people need to be active in this program.

  3. I'm so happy they have it. I told my other classmates about it. Last semester it was so bad,I was walking with my keys in hand ready to attack if anything :) My husband was so scared I was getting out of class late that he was looking for a small gun or paper spray that I could carry on me. Thanks to Safe Walk ladies are safe now !!!
